Immediate Past President - Marcel Loomans
Marcel Loomans, Ph.D. is assistant professor at the Building Performance Group at the Department of the Built Environment of the Eindhoven University of Technology. He received his Ph.D. in building engineering (indoor air flow measurement and modelling) at the same University in 1998. After that he worked as researcher at the Dutch research institute TNO before returning to the Eindhoven University of Technology. Research activities encompassed sustainable energy solutions and indoor environment.
Since 2005 his research has focused on the topic of performance based building, with a focus on the indoor environment, including thermal comfort and indoor air quality. Recent research is directed, amongst others, at heterogeneous thermal comfort and the indoor environment of health care settings, including cleanrooms. In-situ measurements are a key component in the work, alongside simulation. He has (co-)authored over 30 peer-reviewed journal papers, 50 practice-oriented journal papers and more than 80 conference papers.
He is a member of several national and international organizations such as ISIAQ, ASHRAE, REHVA and IBPSA. In 2015 he organized and was President of Healthy Buildings - Europe 2015. This was the first regional Healthy Buildings conference. He served as President of ISIAQ from 2016-2018.
