Indoor Air 2016 Call for Abstracts

Dear colleagues,
 
We are pleased to invite you to the next edition of ISIAQ’s flagship conference, Indoor Air, which in 2016 will be held in Ghent, Belgium. In this vibrant medieval city in the heart of Europe, a stone’s throw away from Brussels, we are planning a meeting that will bring together the whole indoor air and climate community. Join us for a week of networking, exchange of ideas, inspiration and above all the best and latest in indoor air sciences. With your exceptional contributions, we will match the high standards that were set by the 13 previous Indoor Air conferences. A top quality technical program fostering multi-disciplinary collaboration, workshops, interactive poster sessions, short courses and social media discussions will set IA2016 apart as the must see indoor air quality event in 2016.
 
Call for abstracts
 
With this Call for abstracts, we solicit 300 word abstracts for contributions on all topics within the broad field of indoor air sciences. The potential topics in the bullets below are just a list to demonstrate the broadness of our discipline and are not exclusive:
 

• Fundamentals:
  Indoor air chemistry, Indoor air physics, Indoor air microbiology, sources, transport and aerodynamics, sinks, epidemiology, perceived air quality, thermal comfort, acoustics and lighting, public health and exposure studies
• Healthy and sustainable buildings:
  Building ventilation, healthy homes, energy efficient buildings, renovations, refurbishment, environmental impact of buildings, low-energy buildings, impact of outdoor air
• Abatement and exposure reduction:
  Source reduction, air purification, filtration and air cleaning, absorbing materials, regulations, standards and policy
• (Re)Emerging issues in indoor air sciences:
  Respiratory infections, new chemical substances, nanoparticles in indoor air, transport cabin environments, olfactory assessment
• Innovative solutions in practice:
  Field studies, new sampling and technology applications, new materials, prediction and measurement
• New technologies and applications:
  Smart houses, smart technologies, wireless sensors, bio-monitoring for indoor applications
• Developing countries:
  IEQ and solutions, IEQ in rapidly urbanizing cities
• Communication, Standards & Codes:
  Education, sensitization, prevention and communication, community engagement, design solutions

 
Over the last months, we have solicited and received proposals for session topics for the conference. These session topics are listed below; a short summary for each of the topics is available on the submission page. We would especially like to encourage you to contribute to one of these sessions by indicating that your abstract fits the topic during the submission process.

  • Citizen Science and Indoor Air Quality
  • Individualized thermal sensation models: missing links & solutions
  • The challenges in estimating and simulating natural ventilation airflow
  • Do healthy buildings need technology?
  • Hidden connections: building energy use and indoor air quality
  • Impact of demand controlled ventilation on indoor air quality, ventilation effectiveness and energy efficiency
  • Emerging analytical tools for the monitoring of indoor air composition
  • Policy based activities (research, legislation, practices) on indoor environment
  • Application and validation of models for whole building indoor-outdoor contaminant transport

 

• Health
  • Health impact of inhaled ultrafine particles on pregnancy, infants/children, cardiovascular disease, elderly, asthma and COPD patients.
  • What is the role of “health” in indoor air science?
  • Preventive health care in practice
  • Beneficial microbial exposures and positive building interventions

 

• Ventilation
  • Ventilation rate in homes
  • The next generation of ventilation
  • Stratum ventilation for uniform or differentiated thermal environments?
  • Duct cleaning and other maintenance: why, how, when?

 

• Chemistry
  • Sampling and analysis of emissions from Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) insulation
  • New directions in Indoor Air Chemistry: the Role of Oxidation Processes
  • What can we learn from indoor pollutants modeling?
  • Emerging research areas in indoor oxidative chemistry
  • Indoor emission measurements and exposure quantification.
  • Emissions from building materials into the Indoor Air. Sources and control.

 

• Specific environments
  • Exploring issues of indoor air quality with respect to structures resultant from the design and implementation of adaptive reuse of historic structures
  • Environmental airflows and how they may lead to isolation/containment failure in critical hospital/healthcare settings
  • Indoor environmental quality and health in green / sustainable buildings
  • Clothing and its impact on exposure to air pollutants in indoor environments
  • Cooking and indoor air quality
  • Indoor air quality and related low-cost solutions in school buildings
  • Designing buildings for outdoor thermal comfort: how far are we from thus goal?
  • Infectious diseases and indoor microorganisms in low income settings

 
Your work is the beating heart of the conference; we are counting on everyone in the community to support the technical program by submitting an abstract and extended abstract or paper. The submission page is now open. Please read the instructions carefully when drafting your abstract.
 
ISIAQ Student Travel Awards
 
ISIAQ is deeply committed to involve students in all its activities and especially in its flagship conference, Indoor Air. To allow students from all over the world to attend the conference, we offer affordable membership fees, registration fees and accommodation for students. In addition to this, ISIAQ has committed to make 5 individual travel awards - consisting of free registration and accommodation - available for students attending IA2016. Selection will be based on the quality of the submitted papers and priority will be given to students from developing countries. Registration for this competition is included in the abstract submission process.

The schedule of the submission process leading up to the conference is as follows:
 

• abstract submission opens: August 15th 2015
• abstract submission closes: October 15th 2015
• abstracts acceptance notification:  December 1st 2015
• extended abstract / full paper submission opens: December 1st 2015
• extended abstract / full paper submission closes: February 1st 2016
• paper review notification: March 1st 2016
• conference: July 3rd-8th 2016
