Letter from ISIAQ's President
Annual General Meeting, Election of Board of Directors
June 26, 2009
Dear ISIAQ Member:
I wish to make three important announcements.
1. The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of ISIAQ will take place beginning at 5:30 PM on September 15 at the Onecenter (the main conference venue) in Syracuse, NY, the site of the Healthy Buildings 2009 conference. This is an important opportunity for the Members of ISIAQ and others interested in the Society to learn about the most important aspects of the governance of the Society. It is also an important opportunity for Members to express their views on important issues under the control of the Board of Directors. Members of the current Board and the incoming Board will all be present.
2. On behalf of the Board of Directors and as Chairman of the Nominating Committee, I am pleased to announce the composition of the next ISIAQ Board of Directors. These members will serve from the conclusion of the 2009 Annual General Meeting until the conclusion of the AGM in 2012. In accordance with the By-laws, on Saturday, June 13, the ISIAQ Nominating Committee met and approved the nominations:
• President: Richard Shaughnessy (USA)
• Vice-President, Policy: Pawel Wargocki (Denmark)
• Vice-President, Practice: Laura Oatman (USA)
• Vice President, Research: Yuguo Li (Hong Kong)
• Treasurer: Carl-Gustaf Bornehag (Sweden)
• Secretary: Anne Hyvarinen (Finland)
According to the ISIAQ By-laws, if no other nominations are received at the deadline for such nominations (90 days prior to the Annual General Meeting), the candidates nominated by the Nominating Committee shall be elected by acclamation. Since the Annual General Meeting will take place on Tuesday, September 15th, during the Healthy Buildings 2009 conference, the deadline for nominations was June 17.
In addition to the elected Officers who will be the voting members on the next Board of Directors, several individuals serve as non-voting, ex-officio members of the Board of Directors. These include the following:
• Immediate Past President: Kwok Wai Tham (Singapore)
• Editor of the Indoor Air journal: Jan Sundell (Sweden, USA)
• President of the Academy of Fellows: Shin-ichi Tanabe (Japan)
• President of the next Indoor Air conference: Richard Corsi (USA)
• President of the next Healthy Buildings conference: To be determined
3. With effect from 1 June 2009, the BOD has appointed Hal Levin as Executive Director (ED) of ISIAQ. The role of the ED shall be:
• providing information to the Board of Directors to assist it in considering policy alternatives and in adopting policy
• responsible for implementing policy decisions made by the Board.
• where policy direction is absent or ambiguous, the Executive Director shall identify the issue and provide the Board with a summary of the issue and the alternatives
